Dr Jim Macnamara BA, MA, PhD, FPRIA, FAMI, CPM

Media Monitors - CARMA Asia Pacific
Dr Macnamara has a 30-year career in media and public communication and is an internationally recognised authority on media and communication planning and measurement.
After working in journalism and in government, organisation and corporate public relations positions, he jointly founded and headed a leading public relations consultancy for 13 years with offices in Sydney, Singapore and Jakarta, Indonesia and clients including Microsoft, Dell Computer, Vodafone and Singapore Airlines.
In 1995 he established the Asia Pacific office of CARMA International, the world’s leading media analysis firm, and continues as Group General Manager – Research after acquisition of the company by Media Monitors in early 2006.
He is a Fellow and a former National President of the Public Relations Institute of Australia; a Councillor of the International Public Relations Association; a Fellow of the Australian Marketing Institute; and the recipient of 10 awards for communication including being named ‘Communicator of the Year’ by PR Week Asia in 2002.
As well as his extensive practical experience, Jim holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, Media Studies and Literary Studies, a Master of Arts by research in Media Studies and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Media Research.
He is the author of 11 books on media, PR and communication including The Australian Marketing & Promotion Handbook and Jim Macnamara’s Public Relations Handbook and numerous papers and articles in professional and academic journals.
In addition to his commercial roles, he was appointed Adjunct Professor in Public Communication at the University of Technology Sydney in 2005.

Stephenie Vasko B Sc, M Sc (Mass Communication)
Regional Head – SE Asia
Stephenie has an extensive media career in Asia and high level experience in brand building, product marketing and research.
Before joining CARMA Asia Pacific, she was Vice President, Marketing and Corporate Communications for ESPN Star Sports in Asia.
Ms Vasko has spent the past seven years implementing brand and promotion strategies for ESPN and STAR Sports and the network’s major sports products including the English Premier League, the UEFA Champions League, Formula One motor racing, Wimbledon and Australian Open Tennis Grand Slams as well as the recent Asia launch of Mobile ESPN. She also implemented integrated marketing strategies for major sponsors and has considerable experience in media audience research and measuring ROI of major media coverage.
Before joining ESPN STAR Sports, she was Director, Marketing of MTV Networks Asia where she was responsible for building MTV’s profile including initiating it’s first-ever Youth Marketing Forum and its roll out to Hong Kong, Taiwan, India, the Philippines and Indonesia.
This followed two and a half years as Corporate Communications Manager for MediaCorp Television.
Stephenie holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science in Mass Communication specialising in public relations and journalism from the Southern Illinois University in the US.
She speaks English and Mandarin.

Euan Fisher BA (Hons), MA
Research Manager
Euan Fisher was appointed Research Manager of the Media Monitors group including CARMA Asia Pacific in 2006.
Previously, he was Research Manager of Sponsorship Information Services (SiS) in Australia and New Zealand, a specialist sponsorship analysis and evaluation firm now owned by Media Monitors which is the exclusive licensee in ANZ of the world’s largest sponsorship research and evaluation group, TNS Sport.
During his four years with SiS, Euan was involved in research to measure the effectiveness and Return on Investment of Fosters’ global involvement in Formula 1, Ford Australia’s commitment to international cricket, and evaluation of the campaigns of Tourism New Zealand.
Prior to working with SiS, Euan worked with Australian University Sport as business development co-ordinator and manager and has also worked in the United States.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honours and a Master of Arts by research from the University of Queensland and a Dipoma in E-Business form the Australian National University College, as well as having wide experienced in quantitative and qualitative research and analysis.

Mike Watson BA, MA, FPRIA
Research & Analysis Specialist
Mike Watson has more than 20 years experience in media and public relations and in market and communication research.
He was National Media Relations Manager for the Overseas Telecommunications Corporation (OTC) in Australia (now part of Telstra) and worked with Holt Public Relations (now part of Porter-Novelli), before forming and running his own consultancy, MAW Public Relations, for 10 years.
Mike holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and politics and a Master of Arts in Communication Management. His thesis focussed on PR and communication measurement.
He has also been a part-time lecturer in public relations and communication management at the University of Technology Sydney.
In 2002 and 2003 he worked with two leading research companies, Market Research Australia (MRA) and ANOP in survey research for the finance, health, IT and transport sectors.

Angela Mou BA, MA
Research Analyst
Angela Mou (Mou Xiao Yan) joined CARMA Asia Pacific as a specialist Chinese research analyst in 2006 after working as a consultant and account director with the Shanghai office of global public relations firm, Hill & Knowlton from 2001 to 2004 and spending a year as an executive officer with the Public Relations Institute of Australia in 2004-2005.
Before that she was a senior account executive with Ketchum Newscan Public Relations in Shanghai in 2000-2001 and a consultant with Ogilvy PR from 1997 to 2000.
Angela gained her Bachelor Degree in International Economics from Fudan University in 1997 and a Masters Degree in International Rrelations from Fudan University in 2000.

Virginia Wong BA, Grad Cert Marketing
Research Analyst
Virginia Wong (Wong Wai Man) spent four years as Assistant Manager - PR and Communication with Citigroup in Hong Kong, before joining our team as a research analyst. Before that, she worked with Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank (HSBC) in Hong Kong.
Virginia gained a Bachelor of Arts (Asian Studies) Major in Economics and Japanese Studies from the University of New South Wales in 2001 and is currently completing a Graduate Certificate in Marketing at the University of Technology Sydney.
From her four years working in media relations and corporate communication with Citigroup, she has wide experience with Asian media. And she is fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese as well as English.
