APAC research internationally recognised

Measurement of public relations and corporate communication is internationally recognised as a priority to meet modern management demands for accountability and Asia Pacific is at the forefront of research in the field.

In September 2006, academics, researchers and leaders from the PR and corporate communication industry worldwide gathered in New Hampshire in the US for the 4th PR Measurement Summit.

This year, Media Monitors - CARMA Asia Pacific head of Research, Dr Jim Macnamara will be a key-note speaker at the PR Measurement Summit.

Dr Macnamara will be sharing the stage in a key-note session with Professor Jim Grunig, one of the most widely recognised and published authorities in the public relations field worldwide.

He will present a paper titled ‘Taking Research for Planning and Measurement to the Streets – How to Get Practitioners Past the Research Roadblock’. “This reflects the worldwide problem that employers and clients are asking for better measurement, but PR and corporate communication practitioners do little objective research to plan and measure their work despite strong urging to do so. Lack of measurement is cited as the number one barrier holding PR and corporate communication back from growth and a more strategic role in companies and organisations,” Dr Macnamara said.

The industry cites cost and lack of time as reasons for not doing research. However, Dr Macnamara says “these are largely excuses as there are low-cost measurement methods available. Meanwhile, there are other institutional and professional reasons for PR’s lack of research and the challenge for the industry is to remove those roadblocks”.

Dr Macnamara’s address will focus on how to get past the roadblocks. His paper will be available from CARMA Asia Pacific when released.
